Epi-LASIK

Epi-LASIK

You may not know about Epi-LASIK, but this procedure provides some unique aspects that differ from other types of laser vision correction. The Epi-LASIK procedure uses a unique instrument to mechanically separate the epithelium (top thin layer of the corneal surface) to make a flap. Unlike LASIK, no sharp blades or cutting are required. If you are seeking trained and skilled Epi-LASIK surgeons in Fort Worth or Dallas Texas call us today. Please read below to learn more about the advantages relative to LASIK and PRK.

    Advantages over LASIK:

  • Decreased risk of flap complications (incomplete flap, irregular flap, abrasions)
  • Decreased risk of surgical complications post-operative (flap striae, DLK)
  • Decreased incidence of post-op dry eye syndrome. The corneal nerves are not severed.
  • Better in treating thin corneas. Approximately 35% less tissue is removed.
    Advantages over PRK:

  • Quicker healing time (less down time than PRK)
  • Decreased post operative pain and discomfort
  • More rapid visual recovery

The complete Epi-LASIK surgical time is often about 5 minutes per eye. After a brief rest, patients leave the office wearing protective sunglasses. In many cases vision will be blurry after this epi-LASIK eye surgery. This is mostly related to tears and light sensitivity. As you leave the office you will be provided with pain medication and eye drops to help make your recovery as smooth as possible. Patients report excellent visual results with Epi-LASIK and the skilled surgeons at Texas Eye & Laser are happy to provide a personal consultation regarding this procedure. We are your Texas Epi-LASIK eye experts!
