What is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is an implantable collamer lens that helps patients achieve independence from using glasses and contact lenses. Collamer is a biocompatible material that reduces the incidence rate of dry eye.

The EVO ICL is an additive lens, meaning that it's implanted into the eye in addition to the natural lens. There is no tissue removed from the eye.

The cornea is also not reshaped. Instead, the EVO ICL is placed between the iris and the natural lens to correct nearsightedness and minor astigmatism in patients.

How is the EVO ICL Different from Other Vision Correction Procedures?

Compared to other vision correction procedures like LASIK and PRK, the most significant difference between these and the EVO ICL is that the EVO ICL is reversible. Although it's meant to be permanent, you can have it removed by a qualified ophthalmologist at any time.

This is an excellent thing to keep in mind, both for peace of mind and for patients needing cataract surgery later in life. Because you can have the EVO ICL removed, you can have an IOL implanted during cataract surgery without any issues.

Who is a Good Candidate for the EVO ICL?

Although the EVO ICL is an incredible way to correct your nearsightedness and astigmatism, it's not suitable for everyone. You may be a good candidate for this procedure if:

  • You're between the ages of 21 and 45
  • You're nearsighted and have slight astigmatism
  • You want to correct your vision
  • You have healthy eyes
  • Your vision hasn't changed in at least a year or more
  • You have realistic expectations about what the EVO ICL can do for your vision

If you think you may be a good candidate for the EVO ICL, the next step is to schedule a consultation at Texas Eye and Laser in Fort Worth, TX.
