LASIK Eye Surgery Cost and Financing

LASIK is a procedure that saves you money over time. As you’ll find with most surgical procedures, you pay for a high-quality LASIK surgeon, how much experience they have, and the technology that the practice has available.

What factors affect the cost of LASIK?

  • The level of vision correction you’ll need

There’s more to your eyes than your prescription. That’s why Texas Eye and Laser Center offers Wavefront technology.

Most ophthalmologists refer to LASIK with wavefront technology as custom LASIK.

Custom LASIK allows your LASIK surgeon to tailor the procedure to each unique eye and improve upon the results that LASIK typically delivers.

Wavefront technology allows surgeons to measure the entire eye and create a “three-dimensional” map containing detailed information unique to each eye, much like a fingerprint is unique to each individual.

This information guides the laser to customize the treatment to correct each eye’s particular visual irregularities. A traditional LASIK procedure corrects refractive errors that cause nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

  • How complex it will be to treat your eyes

Our practice creates an individual treatment approach depending on your individual needs.

  • Laser technology and surgeon experience

At Texas Eye and Laser Center, we offer only the most state-of-the-art laser technology for custom LASIK performed by our experienced surgeons.

If it seems like one price tag won’t fit all with LASIK, it’s true.

What is the average price of LASIK?

The average cost of LASIK depends on a few different factors. These include the strength of your prescription and procedures that you may qualify for. You can’t know if you’re a good candidate for LASIK until you schedule a FREE LASIK consultation.

A LASIK procedure at Texas Eye and Laser includes comprehensive pre and post-operative care and being examined and treated by one of our LASIK surgeons. With bargain eye care centers, this is not something that is usually offered.

Most patients barely get the opportunity to interact with the person who will be performing the LASIK procedure on their eyes. Although other providers may talk about LASIK, find out what kind of technology they have, as well as how skilled your surgeon is.

Most of these eye care centers will not offer Custom Wavefront LASIK as a standard of care. If an ad sounds like it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Anything that provides bargain pricing on LASIK should stand out as a red flag.

What are LASIK Eye Surgery Financing Options?

The cost for LASIK surgery varies depending on the procedure and technology involved. At Texas Eye and Laser Center, we want LASIK to be affordable for our patients.

Because LASIK is an elective procedure, it’s not typically covered by insurance. Some patients choose to save and pay for it using a Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Accounts, a payment plan, or our CareCredit option.

We accept both private insurances and authorized Medicare benefits. Our billing team will work with you before you have LASIK to determine if your insurance plan covers your procedure.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

Many employers offer Flexible Spending Accounts or “flex plans” that allow employees to deduct money from each paycheck to be deposited into an FSA. FSAs can be used for medical expenses that insurance doesn’t cover.

Money deposited into an FSA is not subject to federal or state income tax. Your human resources department or benefits manager can explain if your company has an FSA, your annual contribution limits, and what qualifies for reimbursement.

You can use your FSA funds to pay for vision correction while saving money that you would usually be taxed on. Because many FSA plans require the funds to be spent that year and don’t roll over any money into the following year, plan accordingly and estimate your medical expenses, including LASIK surgery, when contributing to your FSA.

Some important information to keep in mind:

  • An FSA allows you to contribute part of your regular earnings to pay for qualified medical expenses. The funds that go into your FSA are deducted from your paycheck before taxes, lowering your taxable income.
  • Funds withdrawn from your FSA for medical expenses are not subject to taxes.
  • The IRS limits how much you can contribute to an FSA per year.

Health Savings Accounts:

Unlike FSAs, not everyone qualifies for a Health Savings Account. Your deductible must meet a certain level to qualify. The main difference between an HSA and an FSA is that the allowed annual contribution amount for an HSA is higher than for an FSA, and the money saved can be rolled over to the following year.

CareCredit

At Texas Eye and Laser Center, we are proud to offer our patients the option of using CareCredit, North America’s leading patient payment program. CareCredit is a credit card for medical procedures.

With CareCredit®, you’ll be able to undergo LASIK right away. You can pay off the procedure over time with low monthly payments that fit into your budget.

CareCredit offers low monthly payment plans for healthcare procedures not commonly covered by insurance.
